In 1919 on a scenic piece of property in Orwigsburg, PA, the original 9-holes of the golf course were designed by golf course architect Willie Park Jr. and built at a cost of $20,700. In 1921, the course and clubhouse officially opened and became known as the Schuylkill Country Club.
In the mid-1940s, additional property was purchased on each side of the existing 9-holes and the course was redesigned to 18-holes by world-renowned golf course architect, Donald Ross. Ross was involved in designing or redesigning around 400 courses from 1900-1948, laying the foundation for America's golf industry. His challenging and enjoyable layout is known for its fabulously maintained playing conditions in a peaceful, quiet atmosphere.
Schuylkill Country Club is recognized as one of the premier courses in the Mid-Atlantic region. The course is member friendly and home course knowledge proves to play a major role in most tournaments. The greens are designed in traditional Donald Ross style and continue to make the course different every time it is played. Tee-times are recommended but not needed, a luxury that not many private clubs can claim in this day and age. Members can enjoy a peaceful, relaxing round any day of the week, including weekends. A variety of golf events and clinics are available to all skill levels for men, women, and juniors.
